From all my testing so far, I've found the following levels of affection are used when triggering e-mails. 250 Affection 275 Affection 300 Affection 350 Affection 400 Affection Affection is absolutely necessary from the beginning of e-mail chains to their very end and also necessary for ending e-mails. Actually, affection's sole role in Part 1 appears to be the triggering of e-mail. Without high enough levels of affection from a character, you will never get to see their ending e-mail and e-mail chains. However, ending e-mails also carry the stipulation of having the final boss beaten, of course. -------------------------------+ What E-Mail does for Affection | -------------------------------+ What exactly do YOU get in return for communicating with your fellow party members? Why you get a boost to their affection for you. To be more precise, let's first separate ending e-mails and e-mail chains. 1) For e-mail chains, affection increases by 10 in two ways. First, by choosing correct replies that will continue the chain you will normally get bonus affection upon receiving the following e-mail in response to your reply, but Mistral and BlackRose sometimes do not award any affection in a few e-mails. Second, by choosing wrong replies, the e-mail chain ends leaving you unable to get any of the remaining e-mails associated with it and you get an immediate +10 to affection. Thus, in a 4 link e-mail chain, there is the potential to get +10 to +30 affection. 2) For all ending e-mails, there is an immediate increase by 10 to affection upon reading them with the exception of Mistral's, oddly enough.
