a2enmod rewrite
 // and .htaccess is working...
vim /etc/apache2/apache2.conf
// Locate <Directory /var/www/>
// Change "AllowOverride None" to  "AllowOverride All"
 apt-get install mcrypt
vim /etc/php5/apache2/php.ini  (add "extension=mcrypt.so" to mcrypt section)
service apache2 restart (ubuntu/deb/etc)
sudo /etc/init.d/apache2 restart (most others)
